Background

Kemp Carpenters was approached by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) to undertake a significant refurbishment project at Nuriootpa High School. The Home Economics Kitchen was upgraded with comprehensive enhancements, including kitchen joinery, flooring, ceilings, switchboards, lighting, and plumbing systems. External refurbishments involved installing a new septic tank and re-bituminising an outdoor area.

A tight timeframe

The project faced several challenges. Firstly, the scheduled work was required to take place while no students were on site over the Christmas period, reducing the window for contractor availability, coordination and execution. Additionally, there were lengthy lead times to coordinate for critical items such as joinery, risking delays in overall project delivery. Ensuring compliance with safety standards, which is always a priority, was particularly necessary with the removal of existing asbestos flooring.
